W. Joel Charboneau graduated magna cum laude in 1999 with a B.A. degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He received his J.D. degree from George Mason University School of Law in 2004.Mr. Charboneau was one of three students in his law school graduating class to complete the Juris Doctor Specialty Track in Litigation. While in law school, he was also selected for the Moot Court Team and he co-authored the brief that won the writing competition in the 2004 Mardi Gras National Sports Law Competition and was published in The Sports Lawyers Journal.From 1995 to 2003, Mr. Charboneau served his country in the United States Marine Corps, 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, Charlie Company. He received a Navy-Marine Corps Medal for his contribution to his unit's embarkation plan. As a noncommissioned officer and squad leader, he helped train Marines who served their country in Iraq. Mr. Charboneau received an honorable discharge from the Department of the Navy in October 2003. Mr. Charboneau is the author of "Franchisees Beware: Nonmonetary Defaults Under the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005," which appeared in the Winter, 2006 issue of the Bankruptcy Law News published by the Bankruptcy Law Section of the Virginia State Bar. He has lectured on the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 and co-authored the written materials for "Bankruptcy Law and Procedure from Start to Finish" sponsored by National Business Institute. W. Joel Charboneau joined the firm in August 2004. He is an associate with a focus on bankruptcy litigation, commercial and consumer bankruptcy, workouts, commercial collections, and general litigation. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Virginia State Bar Association, and Virginia Bar Association.Mr. Charboneau resides in Salem, Virginia with his wife. |
