Joel Loitherstein, the founder and president of Loitherstein Environmental Engineering, Inc. (LEEI), has worked in the environmental field for over 25 years. Mr. Loitherstein received a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1973. Mr. Loitherstein pursued graduate studies at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and earned his Master of Science in civil engineering in 1987 from Northeastern University.Mr. Loitherstein worked in sewerage system analyses from Mexico City to Niagara Falls immediately following his graduate studies. After completing his studies, he worked for several Boston area engineering firms, specializing in groundwater modeling and analysis. Inspired by his father, who was also a civil engineer and successful businessman with his own consulting practice, Mr. Loitherstein founded LEEI in 1992. Adhering to the successful management practices of his father’s company, Loitherstein Environmental Engineering is well known in the industry for its quality and service.Mr. Loitherstein’s work at LEEI includes hazardous waste site assessments throughout Massachusetts and New England. His work at these locations has included filing waivers, negotiating with state environmental agencies, Phase II investigations, design of Phase III remedial action schemes, and providing engineering services during remediation.Mr. Loitherstein is a founder and past president of the Licensed Site Professional Association and past chair of the Boston Society of Civil Engineer’s Geotechnical Committee. Actively involved in the environmental community, Mr. Loitherstein is a member of the Commonwealth’s Underground Tank Storage Board and various Department of Environmental Protection work groups. His professional honors include membership in Chi Epsilon (the National Civil Engineering Honor Society), the1987 Environmental Award from the Town of Arlington, and most recently, a Certificate of Merit from the Massachusetts Environmental Justice Network, where he devotes his time and expertise.Through LEEI, Mr. Loitherstein strives to offer high quality environmental engineering services in a comfortable work atmosphere for both clients and staff. |
