Joel was previously a Managing Director and Co-Head of Global Mergers & Acquisitions at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette from 1988 until 2000. He also served as Chairman of DLJ’s Fairness and Valuation Committee. Prior to joining DLJ, he was a partner in the law firm of Davis Polk and Wardwell and headed its mergers and acquisitions practice. In 1987, he also served as General Counsel to the Presidential Task Force on Market Mechanism (The Brady Commission). Since retiring from DLJ in 2000, he served as non-executive Chairman of the Board of the Chubb Corporation, a major property and casualty insurance holding company from December 2002 until December 2003 and is presently the Lead Director of Chubb. He also currently serves as a Director of Borders Group, Inc., a leading global retailer of books, music and movies and of Maersk, Inc., which is engaged in shipping agency activities and other liner related businesses in the United States and Canada and also operates a number of vessels under U.S. flag. Joel is a 1959 graduate of CCNY and received his law degree in 1962 from Harvard Law School. |
