A strong customer advocate with a passion for technology, Joe Peterson is the corporate vice president of the Windows Online group within the Windows® Client Business at Microsoft. Peterson has been with Microsoft since 1995 and has held a variety of management positions for the company at its Redmond, WA headquarters. He currently leads the Windows Online organization. From 1995 to 1999, Peterson was a leader within the Internet Explorer development effort. From 1999 to 2001, Peterson was responsible for the MSN user interface group, which provided the design and development for MSN Explorer and MSN.com. Starting in late 2001, Peterson rejoined the Windows organization. Peterson has managed projects in the Windows organization that have contributed to the customer experience of Windows, including Internet Explorer and the shell, the graphics pipeline (DX, GDI,/User), documents and presentation (Avalon), typography, printing, imaging, accessibility as well as the user education, design, and usability groups. These teams have made significant contributions to Windows XP SP1, Windows XP SP2, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP 64-bit edition and Windows Vista. The technology developed by his groups has been used in more than 600 million PCs around the world and is included in the Windows desktop, living room and laptop products.
A native of Seattle, Peterson holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Washington. He and his family live in the Seattle area. While Peterson’s passion for technology spills over into the technology found throughout his home, he still finds time to enjoy snowboarding, skiing, hiking, scuba-diving and distance running |
