Joe Golden has over 20 years of experience in the telecommunications and networking industry. With his extensive European operating experience, he brings to Accel Europe a unique technical and commercial understanding of the global telecommunications and networking space, and trans-Atlantic technology transfer and growth.
Prior to joining Accel, Joe was the Managing Director of Cisco Systems Business Development and Strategic Alliances for Europe, Middle East and Africa, based in London and reporting directly to Mike Volpi, the Chief Strategy Officer at Cisco. During Joe's tenure in this position, Cisco invested over $5 billion in Europe in strategic acquisitions and technology start-ups. Joe was also active on multiple international boards, including Italtel S.p.A. and Riversoft PLC.
Prior to this assignment, Joe held various senior management positions at Cisco, with responsibilities ranging from driving service solutions for large franchise carriers such as AT&T and Deutsche Telekom to Vice President of Marketing in the Multiservice Switching Business Unit.
Before joining Cisco, Joe was the Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Marketing for Ardent Communications, a Wu Fu Chen start-up acquired by Cisco in 1997. Prior to joining Ardent, Joe was the Managing Director of Europe for Ascom Timeplex in Bern, Switzerland. Additionally, Joe has held European and U.S.-based senior management positions with Raynet G.m.b.H. (acquired by Ericsson), ROLM (a Siemens company) and Silicon Systems (part of the Texas Instruments Storage Products Group).
Joe has lived and worked in France, Germany, Switzerland and the U.K., and spent part of his childhood in Germany. Having lived in Europe for over 13 years, he speaks English, German and French.
Joe holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School.
