In his role as Chief Medical Officer for Pfizer Inc, Joe is directly involved in shaping medical policy internally and partnering with other stakeholders in health care to enhance the public’s understanding of the value of industry and innovation. He is frequently called upon to represent the company’s and industry’s views on issues that affect patients, their families and their care, trying to shape a more positive environment for health, and not only the traditional disease management approach.
Joe began his career at Pfizer in 1982. First, he spent four years at N.Y. Headquarters working with Pfizer International Medical Marketing. In 1986, he moved to Pfizer Central Research headquarters in England, and, until 1992, held several positions of increasing responsibility culminating in Group Director of European Clinical Development and Operations. After four years as Medical Director at Glaxo’s Research & Development headquarters in London, Joe returned to Pfizer in 1996. In late 1996, Joe was promoted to the position of Senior Vice President, Medical and Regulatory Operations for Global Pharmaceuticals, and in 2002 he was promoted to his present position. |
