Joanne Calabrese is vice president of Airport Operations Hubs for United. She is based at the company's operations center in suburban Chicago.
Named to the position in June 2006, she is responsible for the financial and operational performance at United's San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver and Washington-Dulles hubs, as well as 15 line stations. Calabrese also drives standardization of all processes at the hubs to most efficiently serve United's customers.
Prior to assuming her current role, Calabrese served as United’s vice president of Airport Operations- West, where she was responsible for United’s western-most airport operations in North and Central America. Prior to that position, she served as general manager at O’Hare International Airport responsible for the overall operation of United’s largest hub. At O'Hare, Calabrese and her team focused on operational performance, customer processing, baggage handling and ramp operations. Calabrese joined United in 1969. She served in a variety of positions in United’s reservations, customer service, baggage service and onboard service organizations.
Calabrese was also part of the company’s negotiating team for the first public contact employee collective bargaining agreement with the International Association of Machinists (IAM). This first contract represented approximately 19,000 employees.
Calabrese serves as an alternate on the board of directors for Kion de Mexico, a wholly owned UAL Corp., subsidiary that provides ground-handling services at Mexico City International Airport.
