Experience
Joanna joined Pierce Atwood in 2001. Her practice focuses on permitting, counseling, and enforcement issues involving land use; hazardous substance and hazardous waste management, cleanup, and liability (including toxic tort matters) and transactional matters. She practices before local, state, and federal judicial and regulatory bodies, including numerous planning boards and boards of appeals, as well as the Department of Environmental Protection, Board of Environmental Protection, and Environmental Protection Agency.
Prior to joining Pierce Atwood, Joanna was a summer law clerk for the Honorable Conrad Cyr, Senior Circuit Judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Joanna also worked in the press office of the Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives, the Honorable Stephen Martin, MP for Cunningham.
Education
Joanna received her B.A. in Political Communications (1996) and her J.D. cum laude (2000) from The George Washington University. She was a member of The George Washington University International Law Review.

Joanna is a member of the American Bar Association and of the bar associations for the States of Maine and New Hampshire.
Publications
Joanna has published multiple articles in New England’s Environment on issues as diverse as Superfund clean-ups and permitting of wireless telecommunications facilities.
