JoAnn Victor received her B.A. and J.D., as well as her M.A. in Architecture and Urban Planning and Political Science, from the University of California, Los Angeles. She was a member of UCLA's Law Review and received the American Jurisprudence Award. Ms. Victor was a senior research attorney at the California Court of Appeal, Second District (Los Angeles), where she worked for Presiding Justice Robert Feinerman and Associate Justice Joyce Kennard. Ms. Victor teaches in the department of political science at California State University, Long Beach and taught legal research and writing at Southwestern University School of Law.Ms. Victor has extensive experience in eminent domain and employment law matters, from the inception of cases through appeals. She has worked with public agencies over the past decade to acquire blighted or contaminated properties for purposes of redevelopment. In this capacity, she has helped to acquire properties for the Staples Center, the NoHo Entertainment District and the Slauson Central redevelopment area. She has also worked on Brownfield and Polanco-related matters. Ms. Victor has been involved with dozens of administrative settlements, several eminent domain trials and has argued appellate cases before both state and federal court, including before the Ninth Circuit in a published set of cases on abstention. See M& A Gabaee v. Community Redevelopment Agency of the City of Los Angeles (2005) 419 F.3d 1036. During her career, Ms. Victor has represented a broad range of corporate clients and insurance companies in the employment law area. In more than twenty years of practice, she has defended against a wide range of claims involving allegations of harassment or discrimination related to race, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability and pregnancy. Ms. Victor has helped teach seminars on employment-related matters at UCLA Extension and the Real Property section of the California State Bar. She has also been published in For the Defense, on limiting employer liability during downsizing. Ms. Victor has written a number of successful dispositive motions in the employment law area and has argued several employment-related cases before the state court of appeal. See, e.g., Lim v. She is admitted to practice in the state courts of California, the United States District Courts for the Central and Southern Districts of California, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. |
