Joan S. Freilich was elected vice chairman of Consolidated Edison, Inc., effective September 1, 2005. She previously served as executive vice president and chief financial officer, a position to which she was named in 1998. She served as senior vice president and chief financial officer from 1996 to 1998, and was a member of the company's board of directors from 1997 to 2005.
Ms. Freilich joined Consolidated Edison Company of New York's Customer Service department in 1978, and later held positions of increasing responsibility in General Accounting, Power Generation Services, and the Central Operations Group. She was named executive assistant to the president of Con Edison and subsequently assistant vice president, Corporate Planning, in 1989, and vice president, Corporate Planning, in 1990. She became vice president and controller in 1992, and chief accounting officer in 1994.
Before joining Con Edison, Ms. Freilich held adjunct instructor positions at Columbia University and the City College of New York, and was an instructor at the Walden School. Later, she served as assistant to the dean of the College of New Rochelle and then as director of admissions at that school.
Ms. Freilich is vice chairman of the board of trustees of the College of New Rochelle. She is also a member of the steering committee of New York State Women in Communications and Energy, and a trustee of the Citizens Budget Commission. She received the Women's City Club of New York's Civic Spirit Award in March 1999.
Ms. Freilich graduated magna cum laude from Barnard College. She holds master of arts and doctor of philosophy degrees in French literature, and a master of business administration degree in finance, all from Columbia University. She completed the Advanced Management Program at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Beta Gamma Sigma honor societies, and received the Award for Excellence from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business. |
