Joan McCabe, VP Clinical Research, is presently a consultant to the Medical Device Industry. Prior to the Smith & Nephew purchase of Exogen, she was the Director of Clinical Research responsible for all aspects of the ultrasound and DMT technologies. She developed the protocol for the osteoporosis study at Creighton University using the Juvent DMT technology. Under her direction, a post-market surveillance system was developed to follow patients treated with Exogen’s SAFHS® ultrasound technology. She has over 20 years experience in the Clinical Research area with a strong background in orthopedic devices. She conducted the initial clinical trials for the SAFHS® technology that led to FDA approval in 1994. She served with Howmedica as a Clinical Research Scientist including overseeing IDE trials and post-market surveillance. Ms. McCabe has a nursing background and in that capacity has 20 years of experience in the clinical environment with a focus in trauma and orthopedic surgery. She served as head nurse in a trauma unit and worked in the operating room as Coordinator of Orthopedics. She graduated from St. Clare’s Hospital School of Nursing and attended Seton Hall University. |
