Jimmy Robinson is Vice President and an Officer with LeClairRyan, where he specializes in employment litigation, tort defense and medical malpractice defense. Mr. Robinson represents employers in a wide variety of employment litigation matters, including defense of wrongful discharge claims; breach of employment contracts; disability discrimination claims under the Americans with Disabilities Act; age discrimination claims under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act; claims for relief under the Family Medical Leave Act and Fair Labor Standards Act; defamation, and claims of sexual harassment and race and gender discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and 42 U.S.C. § 1981, among other tort claims. In addition to counseling employers concerning personnel policies and employment discrimination, Mr. Robinson practices before state and federal courts. He represents employers before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Virginia Workers Compensation Commission, and the Virginia Employment Commission. Mr. Robinson has also represented unionized companies through collective bargaining negotiations, grievance and arbitrations and National Labor Relations Board matters for national and international companies with operations across the United States. In his health care practice, Mr. Robinson advises and defends healthcare providers including physicians, hospitals, self-insured health systems and other health care providers. He has taken a number of medical malpractice cases to verdict across Virginia. Most of these cases involved catastrophic injury or death. In addition to his trial practice, Mr. Robinson counsels health care providers in patient care issues and unusual matters. He lectures on bioethics, medical record management, managed care issues, and risk management to various health care groups. Prior to joining LeClairRyan in Richmond, Mr. Robinson enjoyed an active trial practice in Roanoke, Virginia. He has experience in conducting arbitrations, mediations, settlement conferences and focus groups. He has taken over 15 jury and bench trials to verdict in both state and federal courts in Virginia. Mr. Robinson is the Immediate Past President of Young Lawyers Conference of Virginia State Bar and a Past President of the Young Lawyers Division of the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys (VADA). He has been recognized by Virginia Business Magazine as one of Virginia’s Legal Elite. He is a member of the board of directors of the William and Mary School of Law Alumni Board Mr. Robinson is very committed to public service matters. His public interest work is significant and varied, and includes: representation of the indigent in custody and other domestic relations matters; providing pro bono simple wills, advance medical directives and powers of attorney to First Responders, through the Virginia State Bar Young Lawyers Conference; and putting on multiple Senior Citizen Seminar over viewing the pertinent and changing laws and programs affecting senior citizens in Virginia.
