Jim Hansen is an Executive Vice President and the COO at MANDIANT in the Virginia office. Jim has over nineteen years experience in information security and investigations and is an internationally recognized expert in the areas of computer forensics and investigations. Jim’s executive experience includes building a multimillion dollar consulting practice and serving as the Vice President of both sales and professional services groups. He serves as MANDIANT’s Chief Operating Officer, driving the company’s growth and delivering service to its client base.Prior to joining MANDIANT, Jim lead sales and consulting services for an information security software firm that developed sophisticated monitoring technology in use by several government agencies. Jim personally designed and developed an internet operations center for a national police agency in Latin America and provided hands-on training on internet-based investigations. He provided key design guidance in the development of a complementary technology focused on detecting insider abuse in corporate networks and led the initial beta sales and installations.Jim has an additional six years experience in information security consulting and sales as a staff member and executive at Trident Data Systems and Foundstone. He built the computer forensics and investigations group at Trident from its infancy to a multimillion dollar global practice that performed civil litigation support and incident response. He developed and led operations in North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East. Based on these experiences, he was selected to be the Vice President of Sales for the commercial spin-off Veritect. During his tenure, he grew the sales team from three people to a professional staff of twenty-five professionals, meeting the company’s ambitious growth goals quarterly and annually. While at Foundstone, Jim worked with a number of team members to build a world renowned forensics and incident response practice. His investigative and sales experience helped drive the early sales of the Foundstone vulnerability management software.With over eleven years investigative experience as a Federal Agent, Jim’s last assignment was as the Deputy Director of Computer Crime Investigation for the United States Air Force Office of Special Investigations. In this role, Jim provided oversight and onsite investigation into the penetration of the Department of Defense’s systems around the globe. He appeared as an expert witness in both the United States and the United Kingdom on highly publicized cases. Jim’s field experience includes numerous undercover operations in counter-narcotics and counterespionage, and specialized operations as a part of the national surveillance team.Jim is also a regular presenter and guest lecturer on proactive information security and incident response. He has been a speaker at several industry forums and a visiting lecturer at the National Defense University and The Department of Defense Security Institute. Jim authored a chapter in Hacker Challenge, and articles in Information Security Magazine. Jim holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from St. Michael’s College. He has held government security clearances at the Top Secret and higher levels. |
