Jill M. Wheaton, based in Ann Arbor, is a Dykema litigator involved in high-profile commercial litigation, products liability defense and appellate work for clients in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries as well as other sectors. She is the practice group leader for the firm's Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Litigation Team and also heads up the firm's appellate practice group.
Currently, Ms. Wheaton is part of a national team defending AstraZeneca in suits involving its antipsychotic drug, Seroquel. She is responsible for teams of Dykema attorneys working on the review and coding of client documents, taking deposition of plaintiffs and doctors, and preparing company employees for deposition.
Ms. Wheaton's industry experience, coupled with her commitment to providing the best written work product to the court on every single matter, striving for summary disposition whenever possible, and keeping a big picture view of each case, has earned a loyal clientele.
Other significant client representations include her defense of Stryker in cases involving medical device product liability claims; Baxter Healthcare Corporation in defending against claims involving silicone breast implants; and product litigation and personal injury defense work for the American Red Cross, Glaxo, and Cardinal Health.
In addition to litigation involving the country's largest drug and medical device companies, Ms. Wheaton was responsible for defending the City of Detroit in two high-profile First Amendment cases one brought by rappers Dr. Dre and Eminem, and another by a prominent police officer. She also defended the Ann Arbor Public Schools in a taxpayer challenge of its policy to provide same-sex domestic partner benefits to its employees which resulted in a seminal Michigan ruling on standing to bring suit; she has represented General Motors on appellate work in commercial litigation and products liability cases; and the County of Washtenaw, Michigan, in a highly publicized matter involving the provision of police services.
Ms. Wheaton, a frequent lecturer and seminar participant, has also contributed to numerous Network of Trial Law Firms Supercourse forums and has acted as a faculty member in CLE programs for younger attorneys. |
