Jerry Jurgensen is chief executive officer of Nationwide, one of the largest diversified insurance and financial services companies in the world. He was elected to this position in July 2000.
With an emphasis on financial discipline and an improved corporate culture, Jurgensen has led Nationwide to high levels of performance. During his tenure, Nationwide’s net income has increased from $138 million in 2001 to more than $1 billion in 2004 and 2005.
Jurgensen previously served as executive vice president of Bank One Corporation, where he headed corporate banking and commercial banking products. Prior to that, he was executive vice president of Norwest Corporation.
He is a member of numerous business and civic organizations, including the boards of the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce, Law Enforcement Foundation of Ohio, Ohio State University Hospital and Columbus Children’s Hospital. He also is a member of the Financial Services Roundtable, The Business Roundtable, Columbus Downtown Development Corporation and The Columbus Partnership.
Additionally, Jurgensen serves on the boards of Loyola University and Newberry Library in Chicago, Achieve, Inc., Columbus College of Art & Design, Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges and Project GRAD. He also serves on the board of directors for ConAgra Foods, Inc.
Jurgensen earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and an MBA from Creighton University.
