Experience
Jeff has been with Pierce Atwood since 1975 as a litigation and trade regulation attorney. He is principally involved in civil and business litigation, including antitrust, contract, commercial, tort, intellectual property, trade secret, and computer technology cases and antitrust and trade regulation matters. Other civil litigation and arbitration experience includes cases involving the uniform commercial code, libel and slander, business torts, commercial fraud, corporate and business disputes, and construction matters in the state and federal courts of Maine and other states.
He often lectures on a variety of antitrust, business litigation and related topics.
Jeff’s background in the antitrust field includes merger analysis, pre-merger notification, distribution networks, pricing, trade association activities, unfair trade practices, general restraint of trade and a wide variety of issues under the Sherman Act, Clayton Act, Robinson-Patman Act, Federal Trade Commission Act and analogous state statutes. He has represented a variety of clients in the banking, paper, forest products, waste management, hospital and health care, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, electric power, distribution, food, beverage, retailing and skiing industries. He works frequently on matters involving the Maine Attorney General’s Office, including antitrust and unfair trade practice investigations and review of proposed mergers and acquisitions.
Jeff’s intellectual property litigation work includes cases involving trademark, tradename, copyright and patent infringement, computer software and systems disputes, unfair competition claims, and disputes over proprietary information and trade secrets.
Education
Jeff received his B.S. magna cum laude in applied physics from Tufts University (1970) and his J.D. from Boston College School of Law (1975).
Professional Activities
Jeff is a member of the American Bar Association (Antitrust, Litigation, and Intellectual Property Sections); Maine State Bar Association (co-chair, Committee on Continuing Legal Education 1981-83); Maine Trial Lawyers Association; and the Cumberland County Bar Association. Jeff is a Fellow of the Maine Bar Foundation and was a director of the New England Bar Association from 1982 to 1985.

Jeff is included in the 2007 edition of The Best Lawyers in America for antitrust law and commercial litigation. He is also listed in Who’s Who in America, as well as in Chambers USA: America's Leading Business Lawyers for commercial litigation.
