Dr. Crane has been caring for patients at the Rex Cancer Center for over 16 years. After graduating from the University of Florida in Gainesville, he completed his internship and residency in Internal medicine at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland.
While serving in the U.S. Naval Forces, Dr. Crane completed a fellowship in hematology-oncology at the National Cancer Institute - Navy Medical Oncology Branch Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland. Throughout his military and civilian career, Dr. Crane has held numerous positions including Department Head of the Hematology Oncology Division of the Department of Internal Medicine in Charleston, South Carolina and served two tours of duty for his country. He was elected Fellowship in the American College of Physicians in 1988.
Other notable professional positions held by Dr. Crane include President of the Medical Staff at Rex Hospital (1997); (ex officio) member of the Rex Healthcare Board of Trustees (1999-2000); member of the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Oncology Association (2004-2006); Chairman of Rex Hospital Medical Executive Committee (2000); President of the North Carolina Oncology Society (1994-1996); and Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Rex Hospital (1995-1997). Dr. Crane is also a committee member of the Medicare Carrier Advisory Committee of North Carolina.
