Jeanette Roberts received a BS degree in Biochemistry from Albright College in Reading, PA in 1979 and a PhD degree in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Minnesota in 1986. She was selected for an Oppenheimer Postdoctoral Fellowship at Los Alamos National Laboratory and spent 2 years in the Medical Radioisotopes Research Group. In 1988, Roberts joined the Department of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy and spent 15 years on the faculty there. Her main teaching opportunities centered around biochemistry, as well as herbal medicines and dietary supplements. Her research focused on the discovery of novel sulfur- and selenium-containing compounds to protect the body against a variety of toxic insults and situations. Along the way, she earned an MPH degree in Public Health and took on the role of Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. In 2003, Roberts accepted the position of Dean of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. As Dean, she serves as the chief academic and executive officer of the School of Pharmacy, with responsibility for faculty and staff development, personnel oversight, budget planning and management, research, curriculum, student academic affairs and fund-raising. In her spare time, she loves to cook, brew beer, travel, and work in the garden. |
