Jean-Marc Chery was born in Orleans, France, in 1960, and graduated from the National Superior School for Engineering, ENSAM France in 1984.
A French national, Chery began his professional career in 1985 with MATRA SA in its Quality organization and by the end of 1986, he had joined the Discrete Division of Thomson Semiconducteurs, located in Tours. Following the 1987 merger of SGS Microelettronica and Thomson Semiconducteurs into what is now STMicroelectronics, he remained in Tours until the beginning of 2001, first as Division Planning and Front-End Production Control Manager and later as the Front-End Operation Manager. In these roles, Chery built the Discrete Division’s strong reputation for service excellence through an intense improvement program using automated tools. Under his leadership, ST’s Tours plant expanded substantially to become one of the world’s biggest power and protection devices facilities.
Early in 2001, Chery joined ST’s Central Front-End Manufacturing organization as General Manager of the Rousset 8 (200mm) plant, eventually taking over both the 6 and 8 wafer fab operations at the site. In this role, he orchestrated the expansion of 8 production from project status to a run rate of more than 6000 wafers per week.
In 2005, Chery successfully led ST’s restructuring program for 6 front-end wafer manufacturing and he moved to Singapore, where, in 2006, his efforts earned him the responsibility for ST’s Asia-Pacific Front-End Manufacturing operations and EWS (electrical wafer-sort) operations. Under his leadership and direction, Singapore 5 and 6 wafer fabs are now running approximately 15,000 wafers per day, covering a wide range of technologies. The 8 wafer fab is currently running at 6000 wafers per week processing 130, 90 and 65nm Flash technologies. Additionally, the EWS operation at Singapore represents more than 60% of ST’s total production run rate.
In January 2008, Jean-Marc Chery was promoted to the newly created position of Chief Technology Officer, where his responsibilities include ST’s corporate technology R&D, as well as the production at the Company’s 12 (300mm) Crolles wafer fab.
Chery is a member of ST’s Executive Committee, comprised of ten senior corporate executives in addition to the COO and the CEO. |
