Jean-Francois Mayer joined the company in 1980 as the financial controller for Rohm and Haas France. In 1984, he became financial manager for Duolite, an ion exchange resin manufacturer that was purchased by Rohm and Haas. He transferred to Petroleum Chemicals in 1987, where he became sales manager; he was named business manager for Petroleum Chemicals, Europe, in 1991. In 1996, a joint venture, RohMax, was formed between Rohm and Haas and Röhm GmbH for the research, manufacture and sale of petroleum additives. Mr. Mayer was named project leader for this new venture.
Mr. Mayer left the company in 1998 to join the Arnaud Group, a leading chemical distributor in Europe, where he served as general manager, Paris. Rejoining Rohm and Haas in 2000, Mr. Mayer was named project leader for the divestiture of the Agricultural Chemicals business. Mr. Mayer served as Director of Procurement from 2001 to 2005. In that role, he oversaw the annual acquisition more than $3 billion in materials, energy, supplies and services. In 2005, Mr. Mayer was named Director of Eastern Europe, where he is responsible for developing, integrating and supporting the company’s growth efforts in this important part of the world. He was appointed a Vice President in September 2007.
Mr. Mayer obtained an MBA in Finance from the Paris Business School in 1976, and an MBA from Western Illinois University in 1977. He was a professor of Finance at the Graduate Business School in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, from 1978 to 1980, as part of his military service.
