Jean-Claude Marquet, was born in Paris, France in 1942, and graduated from the Grande Ecole d'Ingenieur (ESIEE), Paris with a Masters in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 1965.
He began his career at the National French Research Organization (CNRS). From his first experience in solid-state research, he moved to become Product Development Manager for Hybrid Circuits with Alcatel, France.
In 1969, he joined Philips Components as Marketing Manager for Linear and Hybrid Circuits in France. Marquet joined Ericsson in 1978 and was appointed Vice-President, Sales and Marketing for Ericsson Components in France. Six years later, he became the President and was responsible for all design, manufacturing and marketing activities.
In 1985, he joined Thomson Semiconducteurs as Vice-President Sales and Marketing, France. When the Company merged with SGS Microelettronica of Italy in 1987 he was made Vice-President, Sales and Marketing of SGS-THOMSON Microelectronics (now STMicroelectronics) for France and Benelux.
In April 1990, Marquet moved to Singapore when he was appointed Vice-President and Director of Sales and Marketing for the Asia Pacific region. In 1995, he became Corporate Vice-President and CEO of SGS-THOMSON Microelectronics Asia Pacific. Marquet has been instrumental in establishing an infrastructure for the development of research and development, product design, application, logistics, sales and marketing in Singapore and the Asia Pacific countries. Since his arrival, revenue in the region for the group has seen double-digit compounded annual growth rate of 22.8% against a market CAGR of 19%.
As CEO of Asia Pacific, he is responsible for managing the entire Asia Pacific operation of about 14,500 employees. Under Marquet's leadership, STMicroelectronics Asia Pacific was awarded the prestigious Singapore Quality Award in1999.
Marquet served as President of the FBA-French Chamber of Commerce in Singapore from 1999 to 2004 and is currently a member of the International Advisory Committee of INSEAD. In July 1999, he was bestowed as Chevalier in the order of French Legion d'Honneur, a meritorious achievement award given by the government of France.
A long-standing contributor to the success of the Company and its phenomenal growth in the Asia Pacific countries, Jean-Claude Marquet has decided to retire in October 2006.
