Jayne Williams is the managing principal of Meyers Nave. She is a member of the firm's public law department and currently serves as the city attorney for the City of San Leandro. While at Meyers Nave, she has served as city attorney to the City of Suisun City and as interim city attorney for the cities of Stockton and Merced. Before joining Meyers Nave, Jayne served as city attorney of Oakland from 1987 to 2000 and directed a staff of 36 attorneys. She began her tenure with the Oakland city attorney's office in 1974 specializing in housing and redevelopment. She served as the City's director of personnel from 1978-1980. Thereafter, Jayne returned to the city attorney's office and was appointed assistant city attorney responsible for the management of the litigation division of the office, until her appointment as city attorney. Jayne is a past president of the City Attorney's Division of the League of California Cities. She served as an elected representative to the executive committee of the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference and co-chairperson of the Northern District lawyer representative delegation to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference. Jayne is a former member of the executive committee of the Litigation Section of the California State Bar, is a past chair of the executive committee of the State Bar's Public Law Section and served as a member of the State Bar's Commission on the Future of the State Bar and the Legal Profession.Jayne is an active member of various professional and civic associations including the Fellows of the American Bar Association, California Association of Black Lawyers, the Charles Houston Bar Association, the Alameda County Bar Association and Black Women Organized for Political Action (BWOPA.Jayne is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions. In 2003 she received The East Bay Business Times "Women of Distinction Award" in the category of law. In addition, Jayne received the 2001 "Public Lawyer of the Year Award" from the Public Law Section of the California State Bar, the 1995 Hastings College of the Law Black Alumni of the Year Award, the Mark of Excellence Award from the National Forum of Black Public Administrators, the Charles Houston Bar Association's President's Award, the Loren Miller Award from the California Association of Black Lawyers, the 1998 Award of Excellence from the Clara Foltz Feminist Association of Hastings College of the Law, the 1999 Leadership Award from Black Women Organized for Political Action, the 1999 Clinton W. White Advocacy Award from the Charles Houston Bar Association and the 2000 Outstanding Community Service Award from the Wiley Manual Law Foundation.Jayne received her undergraduate degree from California State University, Hayward and her J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1974. |
