Jay L. Zweier, Ph.D. MD, received his MD in 1980 from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in cardiology before joining the faculty of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where he was appointed as Chief of Cardiology Research in 2000. In addition to serving as Professor of Medicine in the Cardiology and Pulmonary Divisions, Dr. Zweier also held appointments as Professor of Radiology and Environmental Health Sciences in the Schools of Medicine and Public Health, respectively. In 2002, Dr. Zweier joined Ohio State University College of Medicine as the Director of the Davis Heart & Lung Research Institute and as the John H. and Mildred C. Lumley Chair in Medicine. He has been a member of six international advisory boards for magnetic resonance centers and actively reviews for or serves on the editorial boards of numerous journals. He has been the recipient of more than 75 endowed lectureships and awards in the US and abroad. Dr. Zweier has published over 200 peer reviewed manuscripts in the fields of cardiovascular research, free radical biology and magnetic resonance. As principal investigator, program leader, project leader and investigator, Dr. Zweier has been awarded over $60 million in support from the National Institutes of Health and other funding agencies.
