Javier Salas is responsible for the implementation of the Company's exploration programs in Perú. He has over 30 years of diversified experience in exploration, evaluation, and development of mineral projects and mines including porphyry copper deposits, medium and small-sized base and precious metal deposits, and low-grade bulk mineable gold deposits. Prior to joining Southwestern, Mr. Salas was Exploration Manager for Cyprus Amax Minerals Company in Perú and for Cyprus Gold Exploration Corporation in Bolivia. From 1988 to 1991 he was Exploration Manager for Empresa Minera Especial Tintaya SA primarily working on the Tintaya Copper-Skarn Deposit in Perú. During the period 1977 to 1984, he worked in Mexico as Project Manager for Minerals International Mexico, as Chief Project Geologist for BP Mineral International Mexico, and as a Division Geologist and Divisional Manager for Penoles SA. From 1971 to 1977 Mr. Salas was employed as a geologist advancing to Chief Mining Engineer at the Cerro Verde Porphyry Copper Mine, Minero Perú SA. He held various positions with Cerro de Pasco Corporation from 1964 to 1971, working at a number of mines including, Yauricocha, Morococha, Toromocho, and Casapalca. He is a registered Professional Engineer and has completed graduate studies at the Colorado School of Mines, University of Arizona (USA), and McGill University (Canada). |
