Description of Practice:
Jason A. Weiss is a partner in the Firm's Orange County office where he practices employment law and business litigation.
In the employment law arena, Mr. Weiss is experienced in both litigation and transactional matters. He represents employers and management in connection with a wide variety of employment and labor relations matters, ranging from wrongful termination and employment discrimination lawsuits to preventative counseling and advice. Mr. Weiss' practice includes the drafting and implementation of employee handbooks and workplace policies such as sexual harassment, internet and e-mail privacy, drug and alcohol testing, workplace violence, family care, leave of absence and discipline/termination. He has also guided employers through reduction-in-force programs, including compliance with state and federal laws such as the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act ("WARN").
Mr. Weiss' employment litigation experience includes handling cases at the trial and appellate levels of both state and federal courts and in arbitration. He also represents management in wage/hour matters before the U.S. Department of Labor and the California Labor Commissioner, discrimination claims filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, Sarbanes-Oxley Act whistleblower claims, unemployment insurance claims and Section 132a discrimination petitions filed with the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board.
In the business law arena, Mr. Weiss' litigation experience includes handling cases at all levels in both state and federal courts. He also represents clients at mediations and arbitrations. Mr. Weiss has experience and expertise in a range of business issues including business torts, contract disputes, trade secrets, interference claims, unfair competition, and intellectual property disputes.
Mr. Weiss is a speaker/lecturer and has written on various labor, employment and business issues before various practice groups, where he has addressed topics such as wrongful termination, sexual harassment, discrimination and new state and federal labor laws. He also conducts in-house management training seminars and workshops for clients. Mr. Weiss is an Adjunct Professor in business law at University of California, Irvine, and also pre-trial civil practice at Chapman University Law School.
Educational History:
Mr. Weiss received his B.A. from the University of Vermont and his J.D. from the University of Southern California Law Center. He served as Executive Notes Editor of the Southern California Interdisciplinary Law Journal. Mr. Weiss also served as an extern for the Honorable Alfred T. Goodwin, Senior Circuit Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. |
