Janine Scancarelli is a litigation partner in FLK's San Francisco office. Her practice focuses on energy industry issues and on class actions and other complex litigation involving unfair competition and antitrust law.
Since 2002, Ms. Scancarelli has served as the governor's representative to the Low Income Oversight Board, which was established by the legislature to advise the California Public Utilities Commission on programs to benefit low-income electricity, natural gas, and water customers. Ms. Scancarelli also serves on The Salvation Army's San Francisco Metro Advisory Board and the Board of Directors of the Endangered Language Fund.
Before becoming a lawyer and joining FLK in 1998, Ms. Scancarelli had a career in academia as a linguist, and earned tenure at the College of William and Mary.
Representative Matters
Advising the management and Board of Governors of the California Independent System Operator on various matters, including issues arising under the California Government Code, Public Utilities Code, and Corporations Code, litigation assessment and preparation, intellectual property issues, employment issues, and compliance programs.
Analyzing and monitoring California energy policy and the positions of various interest groups in support of an initiative by an international company to develop electrical transmission in the western United States.
Defending a manufacturer of precast concrete utility vaults, in a federal antitrust action brought by a competitor.
Representing a non-profit corporation intervening in a complex California Public Utilities Commission proceeding involving a proposed merger.
Defending class action lawsuits alleging deceptive and unfair business practices in several states, in both state and federal courts.
