Janice D. Stoney was elected a director of Whirlpool Corporation in August 1987. She currently serves on the Corporate Governance and Finance committee of the board of directors.
Stoney was executive vice president, total quality system, for U S WEST Communications Group, Inc. from March of 1991 until her retirement in December 1992. Prior to this she served as president, consumer division of U S WEST, which is the Denver-based parent company of Northwestern Bell, Mountain Bell and Pacific Northwest Bell.
Stoney became a Northwestern Bell officer when elected vice president, personnel in January 1980 and then was named vice president, marketing in June 1983. In January 1984 she was named vice president, communications services. In July 1985 she was appointed executive vice president and chief operating officer. Prior to her present position, she was president and chief executive officer of Omaha, Nebraska-based Northwestern Bell Telephone Company.
Stoney is a member of the boards of directors of the Williams Companies inc. and Bridges Investment Fund.
