Jane Lewis Volk is counsel in the Employment Law Section at Meyer, Unkovic & Scott where her practice focuses primarily on advising clients and litigating disputes in the areas of employment discrimination, employment contracts and labor-management relations. Ms. Volk has practiced law in this field since 1976.Ms. Volk has litigated matters before the state and federal courts including the United States Courts of Appeals for the Third and Fourth Circuits, the Pennsylvania appellate courts and administrative agencies including the EEOC, the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, the National Labor Relations Board and the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission. Ms. Volk has advised both employers and individuals in interpreting and achieving compliance with state and federal employment laws including Title VII, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Equal Pay Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, OSHA, the National Labor Relations Act, the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act and the Pennsylvania Wage Payment and Collection Act. She also regularly counsels clients in drafting and interpreting employment contracts including covenants not to compete and various other restrictive covenants. She has advised clients in wage and hour matters including audits conducted by the United States Department of Labor under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Ms. Volk also frequently advises employers in the drafting of employee handbooks and other employment documents.She earned her undergraduate degree in 1973 from The University of Pittsburgh, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. She earned her J.D. from The Dickinson School of Law in 1976. While in law school Ms. Volk served on the Dickinson Law Review and on the National Appellate Moot Court Team, participating in competition at the northeast regional level. Ms. Volk resides in Sewickley Heights with her attorney husband and two college-age children. She serves as a Director of the Sewickley Hunt and is an active volunteer at her church in Sewickley. She is a member and past Board Member of the Pittsburgh Human Resources Association in which she serves as an active committee member. She is a past officer of the YWCA of Greater Pittsburgh and a past president of the Pittsburgh Area Alumni Association of The Dickinson School of Law. |
