Jan Nicholson was elected to the Ball Corporation board of directors in April 1994 and serves on the audit and finance committees. She is president of The Grable Foundation a private charitable foundation in Pittsburgh. Its primary mission is to help young people through education and improving the family environment. Ms. Nicholson has been president of the Foundation since 1990.
Ms. Nicholson worked for MBIA Insurance Corporation in Armonk N.Y. until assuming full-time responsibilities at The Grable Foundation in May 2000. At MBIA she was managing director and was responsible for the company's strategic risk assessment function. Prior to working for MBIA she worked for Citicorp joining the company in 1976. She was named vice president in 1981 and led a team of derivatives specialists for Citicorp Investment Bank. In 1988 she became managing director in charge of real estate securitization for a Citicorp subsidiary Capital Markets Assurance Corporation (CapMAC). In 1991 she was appointed senior credit officer and manager of the northeast department for Citicorp Real Estate. She returned to CapMAC in 1994 as managing director in charge of research and development. CapMAC had been spun off from Citicorp in 1992 and was acquired by MBIA in 1998.
Born in Pittsburgh and raised in New Jersey Ms. Nicholson received a bachelor of arts degree from Duke University Durham N.C. in 1967 and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She earned a master of urban planning degree from New York University New York City in 1972 and worked until 1976 as a planner for New York City's department of city planning. Ms. Nicholson completed the program for management development at Harvard Business School Cambridge Mass. in 1987. |
