Dr. Watson received the Nobel Prize for his co-discovery of the DNA double helix. He holds honorary degrees from 33 universities including Harvard University, Cambridge University, and the University of Chicago. He has served as Consultant to the President's Scientific Advisory Committee and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the UK's Royal Society. Dr. Watson was awarded the National Medal of Science and the Presidential Medal of Freedom and has served on the faculties of the California Institute of Technology and Harvard University. In 2002, Queen Elizabeth declared him an Honorary Knight of the British Empire. He received his B.S. in Zoology from the University of Chicago and his Ph.D. from Indiana University. He served as President of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory from 1994-2003, at which time he became its Chancellor. |
