James Steen consults for Noel-Levitz from his position as vice president for enrollment management at Houston Baptist University (TX). As an enrollment manager, he offers hands-on experience and advice on a wide range of admissions, marketing, recruiting, and enrollment management issues. Previously, Mr. Steen served as assistant vice president for admission and enrollment services at Baylor University (TX). His efforts at Baylor helped the university realize a 21 percent increase in new freshman enrollment over five years, which also included a 10.5 percent increase in students of color and a 26 point increase in the mean SAT. He also managed the university’s marketing initiatives, implemented new recruitment strategies, and conducted enrollment research to help guide Baylor’s efforts in these areas. In previous positions at the campus, Mr. Steen was directly responsible for the communication flow to prospective students, planning hosted student receptions, and organizing visitation days and other special events. He recently has used his experience in recruitment and enrollment to consult with the University of Texas Pan American and Free Will Baptist Bible College (TN).
Associations, awards, and education: Mr. Steen has served as president of the Association of Southern Baptist Admissions Professionals and is a certified 7 Habits facilitator. In 2007, The Chronicle of Higher Education named Mr. Steen to its list of 10 Admissions Deans Who Are Shaping Their Field. He holds an M.B.A. from Baylor University. |
