Jim is a business trial lawyer and a partner at Lindquist & Vennum. He co-chairs the firm’s insurance coverage practice group. His AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell attests to his skills and professionalism, as well as the trust clients place in him. For 20 years, Jim has concentrated his practice on counseling upper Midwest and mountain-states businesses about their insurance and representing policyholders in complex insurance-coverage disputes. He assists businesses with insurance procurement, renewals, non-renewals, policy comparisons, extended reporting endorsements (tail coverage) and notices of claims. In response to recent elevated concern over risks by management and board members, Jim has provided extensive advice to businesses and board members about management liability and directors’ and officers’ insurance coverage. He also counsels businesses about insurance implications of mergers and acquisitions and other major transactions. He has often attended clients’ board meetings to gain perspectives on their organizations and enhance his ability to provide valuable advice. Jim has handled nationally prominent insurance-coverage cases, including one of the first intellectual property or advertising injury insurance coverage cases. He is certified by the Minnesota State Bar Association as a civil trial specialist, and frequently writes and speaks on the topic of insurance coverage. Jim has litigated on behalf of clients or counseled them about a wide array of insurance lines and claims, including commercial general liability; trademark, trade-dress and copyright infringement liability; employment practices liability; product liability; and business interruption. In addition to insurance coverage, Jim’s background includes extensive commercial litigation in other areas, as well as counseling on general business matters. This experience gives him unusual insight into how various areas of a business relate to one another. The benefit to clients? He can provide the same expertise that must usually be obtained from two attorneys one who specializes in insurance coverage and one who addresses general business matters thereby saving his clients money and time. |
