James W. Kopriva is a partner in the firm's Chicago office and specializes in civil litigation with an emphasis on medical malpractice and general liability actions. Mr. Kopriva has represented both physicians and hospitals, including their resident, fellow and nursing staff and attending physicians. Mr. Kopriva also concentrates his practice in the areas of auto/trucking liability and general insurance defense litigation. Mr. Kopriva has tried cases involving a variety of medical specialties, such as brain damaged children involving obstetric and pediatric issues, vascular ischemia, and open heart surgery cases. He has tried in excess of 20 civil jury trials to verdict involving motor vehicle accidents and hospital malpractice cases. Mr. Kopriva has been an active member of the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel and served as the Defense Tactics Chairman, Spring Seminar Committee in 1996, and a member of its Board of Directors in 1999-2000. Mr. Kopriva also served as President of the ethnic bar Bohemian Lawyers Association in 1985. Mr. Kopriva has served as a guest lecturer at the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education Deposition School, and has spoken at hospital medical staff meetings on EMTALA, informed consent issues, and mock trials for physicians in brain damaged baby cases.
