James W. Kim is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Chicago office. He is a member of the Firm's Health Department.
Prior to entering law school, James was employed by The September 11th Fund / United Way of New York City, where he managed the delivery of charitable relief services to families of victims of 9/11.
While at Loyola University Chicago School of Law, James was the Executive Symposium Editor for the Loyola Law Journal, a Colloquium Editor for the Annals of Health Law, and was the Hubert Will Fellow for the Institute for Consumer Antitrust Studies. James also worked with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), where he reviewed Workers' Compensation Medicare set aside proposals for Medicare as Second Payer settlements.
Prior to joining McDermott, James served as a law clerk to the Honorable Judge Christine Odell Cook Miller of the United States Court of Federal Claims in Washington, D.C.
James has published several articles on health law issues, including: "Managed Care Liability, ERISA Preemption, and State 'Right to Sue' Legislation in Aetna Health, Inc. v. Davila," 36 Loy. U. Chi. L. J. 651 (2006); and "Governor Schwarzenegger's Proposal for Universal Health Care: a Policy-Based and Legal Analysis," The Health Lawyer, April 2006, Vol. 19, No. 5.
James is admitted to practice in Illinois and before the United States Court of Federal Claims.
