James W. Callaway, senior executive vice president, is responsible for creating new business through emerging technologies. He is also responsible for leading the AT&T BellSouth merger integration planning efforts.
Prior to assuming his current position in January 2006, he served as group president responsible for the SBC AT&T merger integration planning and transition.
Callaway began his career with Southwestern Bell Telephone in 1968. He held numerous positions in Arkansas, Texas, Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma, as well as assignments with AT&T Corp. in New York and New Jersey prior to divestiture.
He also previously served as president of Southwestern Bell Telephone's Kansas division; president and chief executive officer of the company's equipment subsidiary, Southwestern Bell Telecom; and the founding president and chief operating officer of Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems. In addition, he was vice president-marketing for Southwestern Bell Telephone in St. Louis and vice president-general manager for the company's South Texas market area.
Callaway was appointed senior vice president-strategic planning for SBC Communications Inc. in 1996. In 1997, he became president-California and in that role, was in charge of all regulatory, legislative, governmental, and external affairs activities for California and Nevada. In 1999, he served as group president-SBC Services, responsible for special markets, procurement, and all FCC merger compliance agreements. In 2000, he served as group president, responsible for international operations, Yellow Pages and Sterling Commerce.
Currently, Callaway serves on the of boards St. Mary's University, Arkansas State University Foundation, the Cancer Therapy Research Center and the San Antonio Bowl Association. He is chairman of the board for Golf San Antonio and chairman of the Free Trade Alliance San Antonio. He is past chairman of the San Antonio Sports Foundation, the Alamo Bowl and San Antonio Economic Development Foundation. He previously held board of director positions with Frost Bank and the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce.
A native of Little Rock, Arkansas, Callaway earned a degree in business administration from Arkansas State University in 1968. |
