Mr. Barney has been Senior Vice President and General Manager, Telecommunications Business and Corporate Development for General Cable since August 2005. Prior to that, he was Senior Vice President and General Manager Communications Products for General Cable since March 2001. He started with General Cable in July 1999 as Vice President and General Manager of Instrumentation, Power, Control and Specialty Cables.
Mr. Barney began his career with General Motors in 1980. In 1982, he joined Sperry Univac as an Account Representative. In 1983, he joined Belden Wire and Cable where he was responsible for sales and marketing in Canada. Mr. Barney joined BICC Cables in 1990, where he held a number of executive management positions. He served as President of Phillips-Fitel, a joint venture company between BICC Cables and Furukawa of Japan that manufactured fiber optic cables. Mr. Barney served for four years as President of Pyrontenax, a high temperature cables company General Cable acquired from BICC Cables in 1999.
Mr. Barney holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Sir Wilfrid Laurier University. He is a member of the Board of Directors of NextGen Fiber Optics LLC, a privately-held manufacturer of fiber optic cables. |
