James R. Wangler was elected to the MAXIM Systems Board of Directors in May 2003. Mr. Wangler was appointed as President of MAXIM Systems, Inc. July 2003. In February 2004, he was appointed by the Board as the Chief Executive Officer of the company. Mr. Wangler joined MAXIM Systems in January 2000 after a distinguished Civil Service career. He has served as Vice President for the Special Projects and the Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance group of MAXIM Systems. Mr. Wangler is affiliated with the National Defense Industrial Association, San Diego Chapter. He is also a corporate member for the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) and was appointed as a board member for the AFCEA International in May 2005. Mr. Wangler was recently nominated and accepted to serve as an Associate Director for AFCEA International for 2006.
Mr. Wangler sought increasing responsibilities throughout his Civil Service career in support of Command and Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) programs for multiple Department of Defense organizations and other agencies. While Mr. Wangler was the Chief Engineer for the ISR Directorate at SPAWAR Headquarters, he was the Program Manager for a $200 million Space Surveillance program.
At the conclusion of his Civil Service career, Mr. Wangler was awarded the Superior Civilian Service Medal in appreciation for his distinguished service.
Previously, Mr. Wangler served as Division Manager for Joint and National Programs at the SPAWAR Systems Center, San Diego, from 1989 until his selection as the Chief engineer for the ISR Directorate at SPAWAR Headquarters in 1997. The division expanded rapidly under his leadership by supporting a variety of National Organizations, as well as, all the Department of Defense organizations (Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, Special Operations), Coast Guard, DARPA, ONR, and others.
Mr. Wangler began his civil service career as a research engineer at the Naval Electronics Laboratory Center (NELC) (now known as SPAWAR Systems Center, San Diego). His engineering and management experience ranged from designing computers (prior to computer chips) to developing and deploying many satellite communications systems, to developing and managing the development of many Intelligence Systems.
Mr. Wangler graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from San Diego State University in 1971. He graduated with a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (emphasis in computer engineering) from San Diego State University in 1982. |
