Mr. Houghton joined Corning in 1962. He was elected a vice president of Corning and general manager of the Consumer Products Division in 1968 vice chairman in 1971 chairman of the executive committee and chief strategic officer in 1980 and chairman and chief executive officer in April 1983 retiring in April 1996. Mr. Houghton was the non-executive chairman of the Board of Corning from June 2001 to April 2002. Mr. Houghton came out of retirement in April 2002 when he was elected chairman and chief executive officer. Mr. Houghton retired as our chief executive officer on April 28 2005 but continued as chairman of the Board. Mr. Houghton stepped down as chairman on April 26 2007 but will continue in his role as a director of Corning. Mr. Houghton is a director of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and Exxon Mobil Corporation. He is a trustee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art the Pierpont Morgan Library and the Corning Museum of Glass and a member of the Harvard Corporation. Director since 1969. Age 71. |
