Jim Hertlein entered the practice of executive search consulting following
sixteen years in private industry in human resources and line operations management positions. His practice has concentrations in the energy and process industries and a focus on high technology enterprises. Mr. Hertlein has deep insight into the composition and performance expectations for all traditional functional positions in corporate organization structures, as well as those unique to the global energy and chemical process industries.
His twenty-three year career with Schlumberger, Ltd. began in field engineering in the Wireline Services Group. Assignments in several European countries and in North Africa were followed by a blend of successively more responsible positions in human resources and line management for which he was resident in the United States, Europe, and in the Middle East and Asia.
In 1990, Mr. Hertlein was named Vice President of Human Resources of Applicon, Inc., a $100M CAD/CAM software subsidiary of Schlumberger, Ltd. Operating from the company's headquarters in Ann Arbor, Michigan; he traveled extensively internationally and contributed actively to the revitalization of Applicon's business worldwide.
A native of the United Kingdom, Mr. Hertlein resided in southern England. He received a Bachelor's degree in Physics from the University of Nottingham in 1971.
