James Michael Gatling is a corporate vice president, manufacturing of Baxter International Inc. He is responsible for global manufacturing operations for Transfusion Therapies (formerly known as Fenwal), Medication Delivery (formerly I.V. Systems) and Renal, having served in that capacity since November 1998. His responsibilities span manufacturing operations for blood collection systems, intravenous solutions, medicines, drug-delivery systems, hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis in the United States, Europe, Cost Rica, Puerto Rico and Singapore, and he has indirect manufacturing responsibility in Latin America, China, Japan and India. Gatling also leads Baxter's Manufacturing Council. Comprising Baxter's top manufacturing executives and key functional partners, the council is responsible for identifying and addressing critical worldwide manufacturing issues.
Gatling joined Baxter in 1975 as an industrial engineer and progressed through a variety of positions in manufacturing. His previous positions include serving as plant manager for Baxter facilities in Cleveland, Mississippi, and North Cove, North Carolina. Gatling assumed responsibility for I.V. Systems manufacturing operations in 1994, and, in May 1996, he was promoted to vice president of global manufacturing operations, I.V. Systems. In December 1996, Gatling was named corporate vice president, I.V. Systems. He also assumed responsibility for Renal manufacturing in 1997 and Fenwal manufacturing in 1998.
Prior to joining Baxter, Gatling worked at Anderson Clayton and Northern Electric.
Gatling received a bachelor's degree in industrial management from Mississippi State University.
