James M. Phillips received his BBA and MBA degrees from the University of Memphis. While a student, he was a walk-on athlete on the Golf Team, served as Vice-President of the Student Government Association, Chairman Residence Hall Association, Commander and Cadet Colonel of the Air Force ROTC, and President of the Tennessee Student Association. He graduated with academic honors and was awarded Distinguished Military Graduate, and Professor of Aerospace Studies Award. Mr. Phillips was commissioned as a Lieutenant and attended Jet Pilot Training. After the Air Force, Mr. Phillips was President and co-founder of SkyTel, the nation’s largest paging company, which has led to the PDA revolution. Mr. Phillips was the President and Vice-Chairman of Tellular, Inc., the largest fixed cellular company in the World. He then served as Corporate Vice President and General Manager of Motorola, running the PCS/Cellular Division and MultiMedia Division where his team invented the cable modem. Mr. Phillips also founded iPix Corporation and as Chairman and CEO led the company to become what Forbes has called the Kodak of the Internet. The company invented the virtual tours you see on the real estate, hotel and entertainment web sites like Discovery Channel, Disney, and 10,000 other sites including the millions of images on eBAY. Mr. Phillips holds patents in cell phone, pda, and data modem design. Today, Mr. Phillips serves as Chairman and CEO of Luminetx Corporation in Memphis. Luminetx Corporation discovers, develops, and commercializes bioscience technologies in the digital imaging, supply chain management, nanotech, wireless, and IP communications arenas.Before joining Luminetx, Mr. Phillips was founding Chairman and CEO of the FedEx Institute of Technology at the University of Memphis Mr. Phillips serves on several other boards including: GateSafe, The University of Memphis, Air2Lan, Corp., American Museum of Science and Energy, Vision Technologies, Tennessee Business Roundtable, Tennessee Film and Music Commission, The Herff College of Engineers, The Fogelman School of Business and Economics and is Vice Chairman of The Memphis Chamber of Commerce.
