James M. Baird was promoted to President of RSTA in October 2006. Prior to that, he was President of the RSTA strategic business unit of the former Surveillance & Reconnaissance Group and earlier was Vice President and General Manager of DRS Infrared Technologies, LP, a unit of RSTA. He joined DRS in 1998 through the Company's acquisition of certain ground electro-optical systems businesses from Raytheon Company. He had held the position of General Manager of this former Texas Instruments business since 1997. Mr. Baird has been involved in electro-optical systems since 1980, joining Texas Instruments' Electro-Optics Components department in 1991. His experience includes earlier positions in program and operations management associated with various second generation detector/Dewar/cooler programs, such as the Army's Javelin missile, the Navy's LAMPS helicopter and the Air Force's JASSM cruise missile development. Prior to the management of Electro-Optics Components programs, Mr. Baird was responsible for the Cryogenic Cooler department and earlier, was the manufacturing manager for the U.S. Army Commander's Independent Thermal Viewer (CITV) development program. Previous assignments included program manufacturing manager for the Army's Chaparral Air Defense Infrared System. After joining Texas Instruments in 1971 as a manufacturing engineer, he served in a number of management positions prior to his assignments on the Chaparral and CITV development programs |
