James J. O’Donovan has been a Director of New York Community Bancorp, Inc. and its primary subsidiary, New York Community Bank, since June 26, 2003, and a Director of New York Commercial Bank since it was established on December 30, 2005. He has been a member of the Mortgage and Real Estate Committee of the Board since February 1, 2005 and served as its Chairman from that date through March 2006. From October 31, 2003 through January 31, 2005, Mr. O’Donovan served as Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Lending Officer of the Company and New York Community Bank, having previously held the titles of Executive Vice President (from 2000) and Senior Vice President (from 1987). He continues to serve the Company and its subsidiary banks in a consulting capacity.
Prior to joining the Company as a mortgage officer in 1986, Mr. O’Donovan was a Vice President in the Mortgage Department at Independence Savings Bank (from 1981) and, previously, was Assistant Vice President in charge of mortgage servicing at College Point Savings Bank (from 1976).
Mr. O’Donovan also provides leadership to several professional organizations. He has served as Chairman of the Mortgage Committee of the Community Bankers Association of New York State since 1999, and is a member and past President of the Community Savings Bank Mortgage and Real Estate Forum. A founding member of the Neighborhood Housing Services of Northern Queens, Mr. O’Donovan has also served on its Board of Directors since 1995. In addition, Mr. O’Donovan is a member and past president of the Metropolitan Mortgage Officers Society and a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association of New York.
