James G. Brocksmith, Jr. is a board member of Nationwide Financial Services, Inc. (NFS), a part of Nationwide, a $161 billion diversified financial services organization based in Columbus, Ohio. NFS is the publicly traded holding company for Nationwide's long-term savings operation. He was elected to the NFS board in April 1997. He also serves on the boards of Nationwide Life Insurance Company and Nationwide Life and Annuity Insurance Company, subsidiaries of NFS.
Mr. Brocksmith retired from KPMG LLP as deputy chairman and chief operating officer, a position he held from 1990 to 1996. As chief operating officer, he was responsible for all aspects of the firm's operations, including client services, finance, human resources and legal.
Mr. Brocksmith joined KPMG in 1965 after graduating from Indiana State University with an accounting degree. He was elected to the partnership in 1971 and held a number of executive positions, including managing partner of offices in Columbus, Miami, Minneapolis/St Paul, and Chicago. Mr. Brocksmith served on KPMG's board of directors from 1981 to 1987 and from 1990 to 1996. He received the Elijah Watts Sells Award and the Ohio Gold Medal for his performance on the CPA examination.
Mr. Brocksmith was a director of Vistana, Inc., a vacation resort developer, from 1998 to 1999; a director of CIBER, Inc., an information technology service company, from 1998 to 2002; a director of Sunterra Corporation, a vacation ownership company from 2000 to 2002; and a director of Worthington Industries, a diversified metal processor, from 2003 to 2004. He has been a director of AAR Corporation, a supplier to the aviation/aerospace industry, since January 2001; a director of Sempra Energy, a designer and implementer of energy solutions for businesses, governments and institutions, since October 2001; and a director of Alberto-Culver Corp, a manufacturer, distributor and marketer of beauty and health products since October 2002. |
