Before joining Lindquist & Vennum, Jim was vice president and general counsel responsible for legal affairs of the Gates Group, a $3 billion group of manufacturers of engineered metal and rubber products, a unit of Tomkins PLC. His practice focuses on corporate counseling, international business development and transactions, and intellectual property protection. Prior to Gates, Jim was in private practice. Before that, he was with Ball Corporation as an attorney and business executive in Boulder, London and Singapore.Jim handles international and domestic contract negotiations and has a strong background in corporate development, joint ventures, and mergers and acquisitions, together with construction, distribution and manufacturing. His international experience extends to Asia/Pacific, Middle East, Europe and Latin America.A speaker at legal business conferences on international business transactions, Jim has chaired conferences on investments in Malaysia, and in Jakarta on joint ventures in Indonesia. He recently gave presentations on international negotiations at the Association of Corporate Counsel annual meeting and on international sourcing at the World Trade Center in Denver.As an adjunct faculty member at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and Daniel’s College of Business, Jim's courses have covered ethics in the global marketplace, technology transfer and international business transactions. He is a director and former chair of the Rocky Mountain World Trade Center, a director of the North American Trade Dispute Resolution Center and a director of the Colorado Judicial Institute. In addition to being appointed to the NAFTA Advisory Committee on Private Commercial Disputes and the Rocky Mountain District Export Council, he is a director and member of the executive committee of the Rocky Mountain World Trade Center and a director of both the North American Trade Dispute Resolution Center and the Colorado Judicial Institute.Jim is a registered professional engineer. |
