James E. Nelson is senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of KMG America Corporation, a public holding company that commenced operations in December 2004 upon the acquisition of employee benefit insurer Kanawha Insurance Company and its subsidiary Kanawha HealthCare Solutions, Inc., a third party administrator. He is responsible for managing the corporate legal affairs of the company and serves as corporate Secretary.
Prior to joining KMG America in March 2005, he worked as vice president of Securities and Investment Law at Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Previously, Mr. Nelson served as Counsel and head of the Insurance Practice group in the Law Division of ReliaStar Financial Corp., where he was employed for more than 14 years. Mr. Nelson began his career at ReliaStar Financial as an attorney. He has more than 18 years of legal experience including practice in the areas of corporate, insurance and securities laws and litigation management.
Mr. Nelson received a juris doctorate degree from William Mitchell College of Law and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. He holds an attorney license in the State of Minnesota and he is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association and Hennepin County Bar Association. |
