Description of Practice:
James E. "Kimo" McCormick III is of counsel in the Orange County office. He practices in the areas of corporate and securities, finance and capital markets, and mergers and acquisitions. Kimo has represented clients in a broad range of industries including financial services, technology, software, textiles, publishing, sporting goods, food, apparel, electronic products, and industrial products. His practices include distribution, marketing, and licensing advice. Kimo's areas of practice have emphasized both public and private company representation. He has experience in corporate finance transactions, representing issuers and underwriters in initial public offerings, as well as numerous private placements of equity and debts and convertible securities. He also represents start-up and emerging businesses. Additionally, Kimo has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, and corporate restructurings. He represents clients in fund formations and provides advice to registered investment advisory firms. He also has extensive experience representing clients involved in real estate development, leasing, acquisitions, and dispositions. Kimo works closely with both founders, executive officers and principals as well as the Boards of Directors of his clients. He has developed a reputation for a hands on approach and is known for his creative solutions to difficult business issues.
Kimo is a member of the California State Bar and the American, Orange County, and Los Angeles County Bar Associations, where he is a member of the Business Law section of each association. He is also a member of the Orange Coast Venture Group and the Association for Corporation Growth. Kimo is an occasional lecturer at the Paul Merage School of Business in business law.
Educational History:
Mr. McCormick received his J.D. degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 1974. While in law school, he served as an Associate Editor of the American Criminal Law Review, a publication of the American Bar Association, and as Chair of the Speakers Program. He received an A.B. degree in English from Stanford University in 1970. |
