Mr. Lakin is President and Chief Operations Officer of ARRIS Broadband Group which develops and markets the Cornerstone® and Touchstone systems and the CADANT® C4 CMTS which enable cable operators to provide telephone and high speed data services. These systems are in use world-wide with over 2.4 million subscriber lines installed.
From 1991 until joining Arris Interactive in 1996, Mr. Lakin was Vice President, Sales and Marketing for Compressions Labs' Broadcast Products Group which was acquired in 1995 by General Instrument Corporation. While at Compression Labs and General Instrument, he was instrumental in the development and marketing of the Digital Satellite System (DSS) and MPEG-2/DVB digital video systems now in use by DirecTV and USSB. In 1993, Mr. Lakin's firm deployed the first commercially viable all-digital set top units for Bell Atlantic's ADSL and FTTC trials.
From 1989 until 1991, Mr. Lakin was President and CEO of VSI, a video systems integration company. Prior to that, he was the founder and President of Contel Business Networks, Inc., the highly successful network integration subsidiary of Continental Telephone Company from 1985 until its acquisition by GTE in 1989.
Mr. Lakin is a registered professional engineer and a member of the IEEE and the SCTE. He has been recognized by the National Alliance of Businessmen for his contributions to hiring and training of the disadvantaged and by the U.S. Department of Commerce for Excellence in Exporting. He has published papers on digital television and telephone technology and regularly serves on industry panels for the satellite, cable and television industries.
Education: BSEE from the University of Houston and course work toward an MBA at Southern Methodist University and George Washington University. |
