James D. Hamilton became a partner in the firm in 1980. He has extensive experience in the licensing of technology, the export control licensing of technical data and commodities, the prosecution of mechanical patent applications, the design patent application process, and the preparation of infringement and validity opinions. He lectures regularly on various topics related to licensing and patent prosecution, and has published a number of articles in these fields. He also presently is an Adjunct Professor of design patent law at the George Mason University School of Law. Prior to joining the firm, he was a patent examiner in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Mr. Hamilton received his Law degree from the University of Kansas School of Law and obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Wichita State University. Mr. Hamilton is admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court, the Supreme Court of Virginia, the Federal Circuit, the Court of Appeals of the District of Columbia, the Virginia Bar and the District of Columbia Bar. His numerous professional memberships include the American Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Licensing Executives Society, the International Bar Association, the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys, the Virginia Bar Association and the District of Columbia Bar Association. He is also a former instructor for the Patent Resources Group. |
