John F. "Jack" McGuire served as interim President and CEO of the American Red Cross from December 13, 2005 - May 28, 2007. He will continue to serve as Executive Vice President of Biomedical Services, the position he assumed in March 2004, through July 15, 2007.
Before joining the Red Cross, Jack's career includes more than 22 years as a leader in the biomedical field. Most recently, he served as president of Whatman, PLC North America, a UK-based manufacturer of filtration and separation materials and devices for the laboratory and industrial market. During his tenure with Whatman, Jack successfully restructured the organization to achieve proper growth and profitability.
From 1997 until its 2001 sale to Whatman PLC, Jack acted as president and CEO of Hemasure, Inc., a company which developed products to increase the safety of donated blood and improve certain blood transfusion and collection procedures. Under his leadership, the commercialization of Hemasure products was streamlined and commercial partnerships developed. In 2000, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the AABB, an award that recognized his commitment to the Association and its work to improve patient access to new blood-banking technologies.
Jack also served in several positions of responsibility at Johnson & Johnson's Ortho Diagnostics, Inc. including Managing Director positions in their UK and Belgium companies, and he ran two separate business units in immunohematology and immunology. In his nearly ten years with the company, he launched new products while again managing performance to achieve profitable growth. Prior to Ortho Diagnostics, he held a variety of management positions focusing on strategic planning and marketing of biotechnology at DuPont. Jack also served as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps.
A graduate of Iona College holding a BS in Chemistry, Jack completed his graduate studies receiving an MBA from Harvard University.
Counting among his hobbies, Jack enjoys spending time with his wife, Jane McGuire, playing golf, and fly fishing. |
